Nurses are the backbone of
the healthcare system. Indian nurses are not only
the backbone of the healthcare system; they are also
the backbone of the Indian migration. More than 90%
of Indians in America have a direct or indirect relationship
to nursing professionals. Today our community is growing
and the healthcare needs are increasing. It is time
for us to get involved and help the community in the
prevention of diseases and promotion of health. I
am sure we are on the right path.
Indian Nurses Association
of New York (INA-NY) was incorporated in 2004 in New
York. Within this short period of time, INA-NY has
grown and has accomplished many of its goals. We have
organized health seminar on diabetes
and heart disease in Queens, infection control class
in Staten Island, discussion on challenges faced by
Indian
nurse at work places in New Rochelle, organized 8-week
walking program along with Steps to a Healthier New
York
in Rockland, Atlantic City trips, seminar on empowerment
along with free manicure and facial skill analysis
in Westchester, recognized retirees for their services
and graduate nurses for their achievement. We have
given scholarships and charity donations. All these
programs were well appreciated by the members and
the community.
I
had the privilege to serve as the President of INA-NY,
which was uniquely rewarding. I am also grateful the
Executive Committee Members and the Area Coordinators
for their support. In closing, I thank all for this
wonderful opportunity to serve as INA-NY President
and I pledge my continued support to this Association.
I
encourage all the Indian nurses to join this Association
and share your ideas and talents. Let us all stay
together; together we can make a difference.
Thank
you,
Aney
